Daniel Morgan is the Goodman Head Sommelier. Before that he was the sommelier at City, stepping up to the new position at the beginning of 2023 where his role “is to make sure everyone is okay and help Shane as best as possible.”

He was a sworn Prawn Tempura fan but has recently had his head turned: “The Bluefin tuna. It’s a game changer…”

Daniel Morgan’s career could have been very different. “I started off at Church’s Shoes,” he explains. “I worked at the Jermyn Street branch for several years.”

Whatever Daniel did, it worked and now, five-and-half years later he’s Head Sommelier – and thoroughly enjoying being part of the Goodman family. “The more you put in the more you get out,” he says. “And there are always new things to learn.”

Feeling he needed a change and having long been interested in drinks, Daniel did a wine course. And that was that.

“Wine is an amazing subject. You can go deep and nerdy into it, you can travel, visit different wine regions, try different things… You can always go further down that rabbit hole.”

Daniel started working at Novikov, moved to a wine shop and then, through Tim Piwinger (our sommelier at Goodman Canary Wharf), a friend he played football with, became sommelier role at The Gherkin. “I’d known of Goodman, I’d walked past it,” says Daniel, “and then I met their sommelier on a wine trip to the Loire Valley. And, well, I might have annoyed her a bit for three months…” Whatever Daniel did, it worked and now, five-and-half years later he’s Head Sommelier – and thoroughly enjoying being part of the Goodman family. “The more you put in the more you get out,” he says. “And there are always new things to learn.”
